Emissions Testing

While emissions testing is not required in order for you to get your vehicle registered, it is still a necessary measure to make sure that your car is in good shape, and that it is not causing added harm to the people around you. In Alabama, these tests are voluntary, as opposed to being a required regulation like in other parts of the country. If you would like to know if your car needs testing in this arena, any car that was manufactured after 1996 does not need to be tested, as it was likely built with a Diagnostic System Check.
